Boise State students across campus contribute to our community through service learning courses, applying their learning in meaningful, hands-on ways that make a positive impact.
College of Education students from multiple disciplines contributed to service learning projects this past year.
ED-ESP 250: Exceptionality in the Schools
Students in Katie Conley’s ED-ESP 250 course explored how schools provide special education services, partnering with Reed Elementary to create engaging learning materials.
“This class has helped our group to understand that there are so many things students struggle with on a daily basis, whether they have an exceptionality or not,” said group leader Kimberly Enriquez. “This project served as an eye-opener for us.
ED-CIFS 114: TRS Mentoring and Leadership
ED-CIFS 114: TRS Mentoring and Leadership students built a collaboration with South Junior High where Boise State students tutored and mentored multi-language learners.
“Interacting with the children, we saw how much they have to cope with, and how hard they work,” said group leader Alfredo Palominos. “Working with this community has been nothing but eye-opening and informative because of how different their reality was to ours. Each visit was full of ‘ah-ha’ moments, whether that was learning to be patient, learning about the life of your student, or simply learning how to keep these kids engaged.”

EDU 651: Program Evaluation
Students in Jeremy Ford’s EDU 651 course partnered with The Peregrine Fund to evaluate and provide data-based recommendations for their Raptor High program.
“This was a fantastic experience and the final product gave us great insight into our Raptor High program. Data has been collected for years but we have not had a mechanism to make sense of any of it in a practical application. Monica, Riley, and Ashley [Boise State students] were an amazing team to help with this. They communicated their needs and timeline and thoughtfully articulated their findings and recommendations. A big thank you for this opportunity.”
