Professor Hughes was born on a cold morning in March in a small logging town in northern Idaho, which makes his presence in higher education a mystery, a miracle, or a mistake. He is the first and only member of his family to earn a college degree, receiving an MA in English Literature from the University of Idaho, when the first Bush lived in the White House.
His summer fieldwork in The Frank Church Wilderness of No Return, as a biological technician, has allowed him to more readily study the interrelationships between the Humanities, literature, and the hard sciences, which, he admits, may cause dizziness or motion sickness. He considers himself a poet; but since his recent poems remain unpublished, he seems to be the only one.
