Boise State eSports Fall Recap – Overwatch

By Danny Appleford

Boise State Esports Overwatch team had an impressive Fall season after going 31-5 overall in the regular season. Boise State Esports currently has two separate Overwatch teams (BSU Orange/Blue) that play through the Northern Essex Community College Athletics League (NECC) and National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE). These leagues house some of the most talented Overwatch rosters that can be found in the collegiate scene.

BSU Blue went undefeated during the regular season of both NECC and NACE for Overwatch. They finished 7-0 during the NECC season and finished 10-0 for the NACE season to go 17-0 and remain undefeated in both leagues. BSU Blue did not remain undefeated during the Tespa Playoffs however as they eventually bowed out after going 5-2. BSU Orange also had an impressive showing but failed to go undefeated in the two leagues. BSU Orange finished 5-2 during the NECC league and had an impressive showing during the NACE league to go 9-1. Unlike BSU Blue, Orange did not compete at the Tespa Playoffs.

BSU Blue lost in the NECC Championship Finals to Midland 4-1 which was a devastating end to an impressive 7-0 run during the regular season. They also fell short during the NACE tournament, losing in the semifinals of that event to Norwood. On the opposite end, Orange also lost to Midland at the NECC tournament but it was in the Semifinals before they faced off against BSU Blue. They also fell short at the NASCE Championship in the Quarterfinals to Ontario Tech.

Overall, both Boise State Blue and Orange had spectacular regular seasons for Overwatch in their respective leagues. Hopefully, their momentum will carry them to a championship title next season in Overwatch.
