Since the very beginning of Boise State Esports, Overwatch has been one of the Bronco’s signature games. From winning the Mountain West Overwatch Championship in 2021 and 2022 to traveling across the country for various events, Boise State is well known in the collegiate Overwatch world. All of these accomplishments would not have been possible without Kellen “Kell” McGurkin. Kell plays tank role on the Bronco Overwatch team. He is one of the top players for Boise State Overwatch and has also achieved top 500 rank in game. He plays quick, mobile “off-tank” heros such as Dva, but can pop off in any role on Overwatch.
As recognition for his overwhelming contributions to the Boise State Esports program, Kell won the 2022 NACE All American award. This award is not new to the Bronco roster. It was also won by Boise State’s star Rocket League player Cosmobuster. With multiple national championship wins and awards, McGurkin shows no signs of slowing in his path with the Broncos. Wacey is studying Political Science as a junior and is graduating in Fall 2024. Some of his favorite games to play besides Overwatch are Smash Bros, Fortnite, and Minecraft.
