Jenny Cummins has always been focused on being at the top of her game. There are few better Overwatch 2 players in the country than her. That’s helped Jenny earn a scholarship on the Boise State Esports team as a support player. Now entering into her senior year, Cummins has always focused on her academics just as much as her esports, and it’s paying off in a big way. She graduates this spring with a Digital Innovation and Design degree, one of Boise State’s innovative majors that allow students to get ahead in an ever-changing world of tech.
Extended Studies: A game changer
Part of the recipe for success when it comes to Cummins school is her use of Boise State’s Extended Studies Program, a program that allows students to take classes online and get their degree while still pursuing their passions. “I love that my classes are flexible. It allows me to do more than just my classwork that’s required” says Cummins. “I’m currently working on my CCMA outside of my Boise State classes, so I can become a PA after my undergrad”.
More than just competition
Esports has benefited greatly from Cummins increased flexibility as well. Beyond just playing, Jenny handles graphic design and social media for the program. “I’m about to get my leadership certificate from Extended Studies on top of my degree. It’s helped me become a better leader and communicator” says Cummins. “The flexibility my classes afford me allows me to work part time for the program, while being a college athlete and still having a college experience.”
With graduation rapidly approaching, there’s no doubt Cummins’ college experience has been leveled up by Extended Studies. She has set an example for future students to come for what’s possible at Boise State.
