CAES Codebreaker webinar presentation on “A scientist in policy: Where is the power?”

May 6 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm MDT

Veronika Vazhnik will discuss the role of science in the development of energy policy at the CAES Codebreaker webinar. Vazhnik’s presentation “A scientist in policy: Where is the power?” will reflect on her experience as the inaugural Idaho Science and Technology Policy (ISTP) CAES Fellow.

The fellowship is one of two offered through the ISTP Fellows program, a collaborative effort among the CAES universities. ISTP fellows spend a year embedded in an Idaho state government agency, developing and implementing solutions that address challenges in areas such as energy, cybersecurity, water, public health, and economic development.

Vazhnik, a former graduate fellow at Idaho National Laboratory whose research has focused on bioenergy and landscape design decision-making, has been embedded in the Idaho Governor’s office of Energy and Mineral Resources since August. Her presentation will provide an overview of the state’s energy policies and the role CAES entities can play in formulating local and regional decisions related to energy.

The Codebreaker webinar takes place on the first Thursday of the month at 3:30 p.m. It provides a forum for students and researchers to address their work, communicate opportunities and challenges to a receptive audience, and increase dialogue among CAES affiliates.
