Cultural Exchange Night with African Mandela Washington Fellows
June 26 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm MDT
Twenty-five African fellows will give short presentations about their countries and culture to 140 TRiO Idaho high school students, as well as the general public, as part of their experience as 2019 Mandela Washington Fellows for Young African Leaders.
The Mandela Washington Fellowship, the flagship program of the Young African Leaders Initiative, empowers young African leaders through academic coursework, leadership training, mentoring, networking, professional opportunities and local community engagement. Beginning in mid-June, Boise State will host 25 of Africa’s bright, emerging public management leaders for a six-week leadership institute, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. The cohort of fellows hosted by Boise State will be part of a group of 700 Mandela Washington Fellows hosted at 27 educational institutions across the United States.
Fellows will give presentations on food, games, music, folk tales, fashion and other aspects of the 20 countries they represent. The audience will be separated in groups and given about five minutes at each table so that the fellows have a chance to present to everyone.
