Staff Use of AI
We implement generative AI tools and workflows to reduce activities that are redundant or prone to human error and ensure that human activities are preserved and prioritized where appropriate.
As you integrate generative AI into your workflows, Boise State’s robust data management policies and practices help keep you safe. We offer resources and drop-in sessions to support your use and experimentation with generative AI in the workplace.
We’re Here to Help

Our GenAI knowledge base provides quick tips for appropriate use of GenAI and how Boise State supported technologies might support you in your work.

Join LTS and various guest speakers at our AI Brownbags for Staff. These occur once a month and topic rotate.
Supported Tools
Boise State supports a variety of tools for students, faculty, and staff that align with our policy and vision.
Access information about our policies and supported tools on the tools and policy page.
Using AI at Boise State
Get Started
- Review Boise State policy and supported tools and acceptable use guidelines.
- Be familiar with Information Privacy and Data Security (Policy 8060).
- Check out additional campus guidelines in our GenAI knowledge base.
Experiment
Identify a Use Case
Think about parts of your routine that you might offload to AI (summaries, images creation, table creation, etc.) and distill the task(s) down to a repeatable set of steps.
Review the workflow to ensure privacy and to mitigate risks.
Practice Your Prompting
Getting GenAI to deliver the outcomes that help you, takes practice. Our prompt engineering microlearning provides tips and examples of well-crafted prompts in a variety of contexts.
Same Prompt, Different Tool
Choose a task and prompt different tools to complete the task, observe the quality and amount of interactions you have with the tool, and compare the results to discover how to best use the tool in your work.
Visit the tools and policy page for Boise State supported tools.
Review
- Always review and edit outputs especially when accuracy, tone, or ethics matter.
- Share AI-generated content sources and note when something is AI-augmented.
- Track time saved, quality improved, or feedback received.
- Tweak your workflows and AI prompts based on results.
Whether you are just getting started using generative AI, experimenting with a new GenAI tool, or an expert expanding how you use AI, this quick guide for Boise State faculty and staff can help you find the right balance between AI assistance and human persistence.
Brownbag Series
Analyzing Decisions with Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence is reshaping how we make decisions but using AI isn’t simply an on-or-off choice. Join us and guest presenter Steven Hyde on Tuesday, December 2, 12 – 1:00 pm Mountain Time to explore the 4 Ps Framework of Human-AI Partnership.
Our Gen AI Values
Boise State’s Generative AI Strategic Plan lays out institutional values developed and endorsed by faculty, staff, and leaders on campus. That plan values technological and educational innovation and excellence, but also encourages careful attention to honesty and the responsible use of generative AI.
