Section I. Student Organization Recognition

K. Starting a Social Sorority or Fraternity

To start a new fraternity or sorority chapter, the group must first meet with the Coordinator of Fraternities & Sororities in the Student Involvement & Leadership Center.  The following steps are required:

  • All new or returning chapters must be affiliated with the NALFO, NIC, NPC or NPHC umbrella organizations unless approved by the Coordinator of Fraternities & Sororities in the Student Involvement & Leadership Center.
  • All new or returning chapters must have a national affiliation.
  • The organization must be registered as a recognized group through the Student Involvement & Leadership Center.
  • The Coordinator of Fraternities & Sororities and the Director of the Student Involvement & Leadership Center must give approval.
  • Each specific sorority or fraternity must fully follow the process and meet the criteria for beginning a chapter.
  • An advisor/advisory board must be in place before beginning the process to form an undergraduate chapter.
