Stein Gifts Create Legacies at Boise State

Longtime donors Catherine Stein, and her late husband Keith, have supported the arts and athletics at Boise State in numerous ways, including endowed scholarships for marching band students, construction of an indoor band practice facility, piano upgrades for the Department of Music and most recently, a gift to support the construction of the Center for Visual Arts.

Alumna Creates Scholarship to Aid Student Teachers

Boise State College of Education alumna Jill Hella has created the Jill Hella Student Teacher Scholarship, intended to help students pursuing teacher certification. The college’s Dean’s Excellence Fund has matched the donation to create a $25,000 endowment. Each year, selected scholarship recipients will receive approximately $1,000 from the fund to assist with expenses as they begin their year of student teaching. This video is available with captions and a video transcript.

Honoring Their Daughter's Legacy

These proud alumni remain deeply involved with Boise State today, so much so that after the passing of their daughter, Ruth, shortly after birth, they launched the Ruth E. Kiehl Memorial Scholarship to support nursing students. “Both her nursing care, as well as ours, left a lasting impact on our family; this scholarship helps benefit students studying labor and delivery and NICU nursing,” Laura says.

Maximizing Their Contribution

Originally from Banks, Oregon, Gabe Linehan (BBA, ‘13), joined Boise State and the Bronco football team as a redshirt freshman in 2009. The next year he started his first career game against Hawaii and caught six passes for 82 yards and a touchdown.

Now, Linehan carries the hammer as a Financial Representative at Northwestern Mutual Financial Network in Boise. In his position, Linehan is leading the charge and encouraging colleagues, clients and the public to maximize their donations to Boise State University through a gift of life insurance.

Linehan and seven other Boise State alumni and Northwestern Mutual employees each established life insurance policies naming the Boise State University Foundation as owner and beneficiary with a collective face value just over $1 million.
