On and Off the Field: This Alumna Made Her Own Bronco Family Legacy in the Honors College

Heather Carlson, ’05 and ’11, and Boise State are feathers of the same bird. Her parents are both Boise State graduates, and she and her sisters regularly attend football and basketball games. In line with family tradition, her daughter is a ball girl for the women’s basketball team. Carlson herself holds two degrees from the university, which she said helped make her the person she is today.

“I found myself at Boise State,” she said.

While a student, she participated in Honors College activities and the Student Involvement Leadership Center, where she said she gained confidence, skills and invaluable social connections. Carlson’s link to Boise State is ongoing, and she now works on campus as the Division of University Advancement’s director of digital marketing strategy. 

Every month, Carlson gives to Boise State causes like men’s and women’s basketball, but as a parent, making “that big gift” doesn’t always jive with household expenses. That’s why she added the Honors College scholarship as a beneficiary of her insurance and retirement plans. She said the process took her five minutes.

“I have cemented that bigger legacy and my hope is that maybe one of my daughters can get the Honors College Scholarship one day!”
