Overview of the Program

Boise State University, through the Center for Global Engagement, has been awarded funding from the Increase and Diversify Education Abroad for U.S. Students (IDEAS) program to support three Boise State faculty members in developing capacity for a future study abroad program in Mozambique, Africa. The program will specifically target Boise State faculty who currently teach UF200 courses.

Entitled Building Capacity for Global Learning in Mozambique through the Lens of Economic Development, this initiative is funded by the U.S. Department of State and aims to strengthen Boise State’s ability to design and implement innovative global learning opportunities for students in the future.

The focus of this IDEAS grant is to prepare participating faculty for a potential future study abroad program in Mozambique, anticipated for Spring 2027. Throughout the Spring 2026 semester, selected participants will engage in lectures and workshops on topics related to Mozambique, Africa, and economic development.

In May 2026, participants will travel to Mozambique for a two-week immersion experience, spending time at Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo and at the Gorongosa National Park. While on site, participants will take part in lectures, introductory Portuguese language sessions, excursions, and cultural activities, all centered around the theme of economic development.
