Program Goals
The Program will pursue the following goals:
- To deepen understanding of the Mandarin language, Taiwanese culture and the current issues affecting Taiwan in connection with Mainland China and the rest of Asia.
- To reflect on ideas and perspectives pertaining to East Asian countries that differ from those pervasive in the U.S. as they apply to instruction and curriculum.
- To implement innovative methodologies and teaching approaches in the U.S. classroom resulting from experiential learning experiences, and formal instruction in Taiwan, as well as the use of new technologies.
- To gain information, gather resources and materials for developing new or enhancing existing curriculum and instruction on East Asian studies in the U.S.
