Types of Scholarships

Boise State offers both automatic scholarships and scholarships that require an additional application. Automatic scholarships include the Foothills, Ridgeline, and Summit Scholarships—if you meet the criteria and deadlines, you’re guaranteed an award. Other scholarships may require additional application materials.

Be sure to read all requirements carefully to ensure you’ve satisfied the requirements and deadlines for any scholarships.

Scholarships for Fall 2024 Applicants

Automatic Scholarships for First-Year Applicants

First-year applicants to Boise State are defined as those who hold fewer than 14 transferrable post-secondary credits earned after high school. The scholarships in the table below require no additional application for consideration, but eligibility does require that all required admissions materials are received in the International Admissions Office by the posted deadline.

Please be aware that some programs at Boise State are ineligible for these scholarships and that applicants must be in an eligible program to be considered. Ineligible majors include Nursing, Pre-Nursing, Radiological Science, Pre-Radiological Science, and self-supported and fully online programs.

Global Scholarships

The Center for Global Engagement offers the Global Excellence and Global Distinction Scholarships for new degree-seeking undergraduate international students. These scholarships require an additional application and are open only to international undergraduate applicants.

Requirements and Eligibility Criteria

In order to be eligible for a Global Scholarship award, students must:

Be first-time Boise State University undergraduate degree-seeking students.
Have an unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.00 (Global Distinction Scholarship) or 3.50 (Global Excellence Scholarship).
Study in an eligible major. Nursing, Pre-Nursing, Radiology, Pre-Radiology, and self-supported and fully online programs are not eligible for these awards.
Submit your admissions application, all required admissions materials, and the Global Scholarship application to International Admissions by the posted deadline. The application for admission and application fee must be submitted before students can submit a Global Scholarship application.

In addition to academic achievement, Global Scholarship recipients typically demonstrate ambitious academic or professional goals, a commitment to positively impacting the Boise State community, and the ability to overcome adversity.

The Fall 2024 Global Scholarship application deadline has passed. Scholarship announcements will be made in March.

Automatic Scholarships for Transfer Students

Transfer applicants to Boise State are defined as those who hold 14 or more transferrable post-secondary credits earned after high school. The scholarships in the table below require no additional application for consideration, but eligibility does require that all required admissions materials are received by the posted deadline.

Second-degree seeking students may apply for Boise State’s Global Scholarships; however, priority is given to first-time degree-seeking students, so consideration is subject to award availability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Boise State offer full funding scholarships for undergraduate students?

No full funding scholarships are available at this time. Our largest scholarship for undergraduate international students is the Global Excellence Scholarship, worth $18,194 per academic year.

Can I combine different scholarship awards?

Some scholarships may be combined while others may not. Generally, the maximum a student may be awarded for any one year from the scholarships listed previously is $‭18,194. Some scholarships from the Boise State Scholarship Application, however, may be stackable. Be sure to consult the specific award criteria for more information.

How long do scholarships last?

Most scholarships are renewable for up to four years (eight semesters) of study, or until you graduate, whichever comes first. Please note that the transfer scholarships are awarded for two years (4 semesters).

Does Boise State offer athletic scholarships?

Yes, there are athletic scholarships available at Boise State. Athletic scholarships are competitive and the recruiting and awarding process is handled by the Athletic Department and individual teams. For more information, please contact Boise State Athletics.

How will I be notified if I am awarded a scholarship?

Scholarship recipients will receive an email notifying them of their award, which will then be posted to their myBoiseState account.

Can outside scholarships be applied to the cost of attendance at Boise State?

Yes! If you receive a scholarship through an outside organization, you may use that to reduce the cost of attendance. We encourage all students to explore outside funding options.
