Types of Scholarships

Boise State offers both automatic scholarships and scholarships that require an additional application. Automatic scholarships include the Foothills, Ridgeline, and Summit Scholarships—if you meet the criteria and deadlines, you’re guaranteed an award. Other scholarships may require additional application materials.

Does Boise State offer full funding scholarships for undergraduate students?

No full funding scholarships are available at this time. Our largest scholarship for undergraduate international students is the Global Excellence Scholarship, worth $18,194 per academic year.

Can I combine different scholarship awards?

Some scholarships may be combined while others may not. Generally, the maximum a student may be awarded for any one year from the scholarships listed previously is $‭18,194. Some scholarships from the Boise State Scholarship Application, however, may be stackable. Be sure to consult the specific award criteria for more information.

How long do scholarships last?

Most scholarships are renewable for up to four years (eight semesters) of study, or until you graduate, whichever comes first. Please note that the transfer scholarships are awarded for two years (4 semesters).

Does Boise State offer athletic scholarships?

Yes, there are athletic scholarships available at Boise State. Athletic scholarships are competitive and the recruiting and awarding process is handled by the Athletic Department and individual teams. For more information, please contact Boise State Athletics.

How will I be notified if I am awarded a scholarship?

Scholarship recipients will receive an email notifying them of their award, which will then be posted to their myBoiseState account.

Can outside scholarships be applied to the cost of attendance at Boise State?

Yes! If you receive a scholarship through an outside organization, you may use that to reduce the cost of attendance. We encourage all students to explore outside funding options.
