RSVP for Orientation by Aug. 11
New Graduate Student Orientation will be held on Friday, August 20, 11:30 – 2 pm at the Jordan Ballroom in the Student Union Building. The Graduate College at Boise State University welcomes you as you begin your graduate studies. We are excited to introduce our thriving graduate community with a special orientation event!
Orientation will provide a personal welcome from President Marlene Tromp, Acting Dean Scott Lowe, and other university leaders who will offer messages with their support and outline particular updates related to the upcoming semester. You will hear presentations from the Graduate Student Success Center and other resource providers, as well as advice from award-winning faculty members.
A highlight of orientation each year is our graduate student panel. Panelists representing each college will be available to answer questions, provide tips, and offer helpful insights into the graduate student experience.
A virtual orientation experience will be available online the following week for those graduate students who are unable to attend the live event.
For any questions regarding New Graduate Student Orientation, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit the newly admitted students page.

In addition to providing oversight to graduate programs and policies at the university, the Graduate College offers many resources that are available to you. The Graduate Student Success Center allows graduate students to develop enduring skills through personalized assistance such as thesis and dissertation support, writing consultations, and professional development workshops. During your graduate career, we encourage you to take advantage of skill development opportunities including the Three Minute Thesis competition and the Graduate Student Showcase, as well as exploring mental health and wellness resources through GradWell. We are here to enhance your graduate experience and support you throughout your academic journey.
Graduate Student Success Center
The Graduate Student Success Center is here to support you through all stages of your oral defense, thesis and dissertation writing, and the final document submission process.
Graduate Student Showcase
The Graduate Student Showcase provides graduate students with a skills development opportunity while also highlighting graduate programs and the excellent scholarship taking place across campus.
Three Minute Thesis
An 80,000 word Ph.D. thesis would take 9 hours to present. The time limit…3 minutes. The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition cultivates students’ academic, presentation, and research communication skills and celebrates exciting graduate research taking place at Boise State. Winning participants earn the opportunity to move on to the statewide and regional 3MT competitions.
Graduate student mental health and well-being have long been a focus at Boise State University. The GradWell initiative implemented several years ago through a collaboration between the Graduate College and Counseling Services provides mental wellness education, facilitates access to mental health resources, and fosters graduate student connections. GradWell also engages graduate faculty by providing them with methods to identify graduate students in distress and access to resources.
Mentoring support ensures that students will be well trained, successfully complete their degrees, and obtain promising job opportunities. The Graduate College is committed to cultivating a culture of mentoring in graduate education at Boise State University.
All this and more will be highlighted and discussed at new student orientation. Make sure to reserve your spot NOW!
