AHEC Scholars Program

SW Idaho Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is now taking applications for our first year of participation in the WWAMI AHEC Scholars program. Health Profession students enrolled in a degree or certificate health professions program with a GPA of 2.5 or higher may apply. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or Foreign National and must be able to commit to a 2-year AHEC Scholars activity schedule.

Eligible programs of study include:

  • Addiction Counseling
  • Anesthesia Assistant
  • Athletic Trainer
  • Audiology
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (less than 2 years)
  • Communication Disorder Specialist
  • Community Health Worker (less than 2 years)
  • Dental Assistant (less than 2 years)
  • Dental Hygienist
  • Dentistry
  • EMS Professional
  • Health Education Specialist
  • Health Information Technology
  • Master in Health Administration
  • Medical Assistant (less than 2 years)
  • Medical Coders (less than 2 years)
  • Medicine (MD/DO)
  • Mental or Behavioral Health Counseling (graduate)
  • Naturopathic Medicine
  • Nutritionist
  • Occupational and Physical Therapy Assistant
  • Paramedic (less than 2 years)

The application cycle is open through October 31, 2019. Selected applicants will be notified in early November to be followed by a kick-off orientation event mid-November. Didactic coursework will begin in January 2020 and will take place in live classroom settings weekly in the evening for 6 weeks on a local campus. The cohort will be comprised of 15 interdisciplinary students.The WWAMI AHEC Scholars Program is a nationally recognized interdisciplinary educational and training program that focuses on preparing a diverse, culturally competent healthcare workforce specializing in rural and underserved areas.
