The Division of Research and Economic Development (DRED) is committed to cultivating an environment where education through research, scholarly endeavor and creative activity thrives. DRED provides comprehensive support for faculty, staff and student research and creative activity, guides research strategic directions, manages the university’s intellectual property portfolio, facilitates relationships with stakeholders, and leads economic development and innovation.

Center for Research and Creative Activity

The Center for Research and Creative Activity (CRCA) provides support from idea to impact for faculty as they prepare, conduct, and share their research. CRCA is a key part of the Research and Creative Activity Ecosystem.

Office of Sponsored Programs

The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) offers expertise and comprehensive assistance in external funding acquisition, proposal development, budgeting, compliance, and contractual agreements. OSP ensures seamless alignment with federal, state, and institutional regulations, supporting principal investigators and their project teams in navigating the complexities of the sponsored project life cycle.

Office of Research Compliance

The Office of Research Compliance (ORC) assists faculty, staff, and students with research and academic activities, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws, as well as sponsor requirements and university policies.

Institutional Review Board

An Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a committee established by an institution to protect the rights and welfare of human subjects recruited to participate in research activities. Federal and state regulations and University policy require all human subjects research conducted by Boise State University faculty, staff, and students to be approved by the IRB before the research can be conducted. The ORC provides administrative support.

IDeA Programs Office

The IDeA Programs Office (IPO) at Boise State University, formerly known as the Center of Excellence in Biomedical Research, provides administrative support for several biomedical research and training programs. Together, these programs provide research opportunities, training, career development, networking, and resources that are available to students, postdoctoral fellows, staff, and faculty to further career and professional development. These programs include the Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) in Matrix Biology, Convergent Engineering and Biomolecular Science (CEBS) COBRE, statewide Idaho IDeA Network for Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE), the Mountain West CTR-IN, Food and Dairy Innovation Center, Boise State Chapter of Sigma Xi, Southwest Bridges to Baccalaureate, and Musculoskeletal Research Institute (MRI).
