Candice Johnson, senior business operations manager for the School of Nursing, received the 2025-2026 College of Health Sciences Extra Mile Staff Award.

The Extra Mile Staff Award highlights the achievements and efforts of staff who have gone above and beyond the call of duty, and exude commitment and passion for their work, their organization, and the larger community.

“Candice exemplifies what it means to go above and beyond in service to our staff, faculty, students, and the communities we serve,” Veronica McDuffee, clinical assistant professor for the School of Nursing, said. “She is a compassionate leader who leads with both heart and grit. Her unwavering commitment to our organization is evident in her tireless availability and her constant drive to problem-solve and improve our operations. No matter the challenge, Candice approaches it with dedication and grace, never complaining even when facing the most demanding situations.

“What truly sets Candice apart is how she leads with her core values of compassion and understanding. Whether working with the staff she manages, collaborating with faculty, or supporting students, she consistently assumes the best intentions in others, even when mistakes occur. This grace-filled approach creates an environment where people feel valued and supported while being held accountable.”

In addition, Johnson advocates for students, particularly those whom others might overlook or dismiss, offering support and opportunities when they need it most.
