Move-In Day FAQ
Before Move-In Day
When is Move-In Day?
Move-in is going to be August 18 this year.
What do I need to do before move-in day?
- Make your first housing payment. This is due by July 25.
- Sign up for Orientation and Register for classes if you haven’t already.
- Check to make sure that you are registered for at least 12 credits for the Fall semester (this is the minimum to be eligible for on-campus housing).
- If you were under the age of 18 when you signed your License Agreement, be sure that your parent or guardian has completed the parental verification process. If you need help with this, email us at housing@boisestate.edu or call us at (208) 447-1001.
What should I bring with me? What should I leave home?
While packing, use our What to Bring and What to Leave Home list. Remember that your residence hall is furnished so leave items such as beds, desks, desk chairs, dressers, and mattresses at home. Residence hall spaces are also modest-sized so it’s better to under-pack than over-pack.
You can also access the room measurements for your residence hall on their webpage.
Some items are restricted so be sure to review the list.
How many vehicles can I bring with me to campus?
Up to two, including your own.
Can I bring a trailer or recreational vehicle to campus?
We cannot accommodate larger vehicles such as trailers or recreational vehicles on-campus.
What about COVID regulations?
Currently, facial coverings and proof of vaccination are not required.
How many people can I bring with me to move-in?
We ask that during move-in you only bring two people with you. Due to limited space within the residence halls, we cannot accommodate large groups.
Arriving On-Campus
Where do I go when I arrive on-campus?
This depends on your assigned community. We will publish maps and information at the beginning of August.
What happens once I'm parked in my arrival zone?
You’ll get out of your vehicle and head over to a check-in tent near your parking lot. Our team will provide you with the keys to your new home and then you’ll start moving in. You will have one hour to unload your vehicle(s).
Sawtooth and Honors Residents: Before you start moving in, you’ll need to go across the street to pick up your Bronco Card from inside the Student Union Building. This process goes much faster if you’ve completed the steps to get your Bronco Card printed in advance.
Do I need a special parking permit during Move-In Day?
When you get your keys, you’ll receive a dashboard permit with your information on it. You don’t need to worry about citations as long as you park in your designated short and long-term parking zones.
If you’re going to have a vehicle on-campus throughout the year, you’ll need to pick up your parking permit inside the Student Union Building if you have not already had it shipped to your home address.
Moving In
How long do I have to move in after arriving on campus?
We are going to try to schedule roommates to have the same move in times as much as possible. You will have an hour to unload your car(s) and move your belongings into your suite. After that, we will ask you to move your car from short-term parking to long-term parking while you’re unpacking.
As we get closer to move in day, more information will be sent out regarding parking locations.
Can I get help moving in my belongings?
We have amazing staff and volunteers. If you’re comfortable with them helping you move your belongings, they’ll be happy to do so.
Are wheeled carts available?
Yes, we have wheeled carts and wheeled flat “sleds” that can be used to haul your belongings. As move-ins get busier, the availability of carts may be limited but we work as hard as we can to ensure that they’re available as quickly as possible. This is why it is important to arrive during your scheduled time.
If you have a cart or dolly that you can bring with you, we would greatly appreciate you doing so.
If you do borrow a cart, please be sure to return it so that others can use it.
Can my family and friends enter my residence hall to help me move my belongings in?
Yes, the family and friends you brought with you to campus can enter the residence hall and your room to help you move-in.
Will the doors to my residence hall be unlocked during move-in?
Yes, we unlock the outside doors to your building until 7:00 pm during Move-In Day. After that, you’ll need your Bronco Card to get in. To get into your suite, you will need to use your room key throughout the day.
After Moving In
What do I do if I have a maintenance issue in my space?
Each community has a service desk that can help with these issues. Swing by and let them know what’s going on and they’ll submit a work order so a member of our maintenance team can come out to help.
I had a package shipped to me before moving in. How do I pick that up?
Normally, you can pick up packages from your service desk but during move-ins, we get so many packages that we set up temporary package rooms. Your RA or service desk staff can direct you to yours.
Note that our service desks will not be open until the week before move-in, August 8. Packages delivered to the service desk before this time will be returned to the sender.
What else should I do after moving in?
Your first stop should be the Student Union Building to grab some food, visit the Bronco Shop, and get your Bronco Card if you haven’t gotten that already. You can also get your parking permit in the Student Union Building.
After you’ve got your to-do list done, check out Bronco Welcome and events happening around campus. It’s time to meet your fellow Broncos and have fun!
