Training Modules
To streamline the Annual Mandatory Trainings this year, Human Resources and the Office of Information Technology have combined all four modules into a single Canvas training. These state- and university-required annual trainings provide essential information about your rights, responsibilities, and the resources available to support you as a Boise State employee.
- Respectful Workplace (12 min): The culture of our workplace is shaped by how we treat one another every day. It reflects our shared responsibility to foster a thriving community where everyone can work and learn in a safe and respectful environment. This module provides you with the guidance to prevent and respond to harassment and discrimination, and understand where to report concerns.
- Cybersecurity (30 min): Everyday digital actions play a critical role in protecting our data. This module provides ways to spot phishing attempts, secure your credentials, and reduce the risk of data breaches, protecting student records, university operations, and your personal information.
- Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA – 9 min): As part of the Boise State community, we all have a responsibility to protect student information. This module provides guidance to prevent unintentional disclosures and uphold the privacy and trust that our students and their families place in Boise State.
- Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act (5 min): You play an important role in campus safety. If a crime or safety concern is shared with you, or you become aware of one, you must report it to the Department of Public Safety. This module explains what needs to be reported and how to take action, so you can respond appropriately and help keep our campus community safe and informed.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Why are these trainings mandatory?
At Boise State, creating a safe, respectful, and secure campus is a shared responsibility. These statewide and university trainings are more than a requirement, they are an investment in our campus culture and future. They provide important information and reminders to reinforce our commitment to respectful workplaces, data security, student and employee privacy, and campus safety. Completing these trainings help protect our students, strengthens our institution and campus community, and supports you in navigating workday situations with clarity and confidence.
Who is required to complete the trainings?
All benefit-eligible staff and faculty and all adjunct faculty, including those who may not renew employment. New employees starting in March must also complete the training.
Note: These trainings are available and accessible to all employees. Supervisors may also ask their student and temporary employees to complete this training, as appropriate.
How do I request an accommodation for the trainings?
Boise State is committed to ensuring these trainings are accessible to all employees. Employees with disabilities may send reasonable accommodation requests to complete these trainings to hr@boisestate.edu before Monday, March 23, 2026.
Are language resources available for the trainings?
Yes. Boise State provides language resources to help employees complete the mandatory trainings. For more information, please review our Mandatory Trainings Language Resources website. For further questions, please contact hr@boisestate.edu.
I am a counselor and not a mandatory reporter. Do I still need to complete the trainings?
Yes. If you are a benefit-eligible employee, you are required to complete the Annual Mandatory Trainings each year, regardless of whether you are designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) or Mandatory Reporter. While some roles may be exempt from specific crime-reporting responsibilities, no benefit-eligible employee is exempt from completing the trainings. While the trainings include a brief refresher on the Clery Act, they also cover Respectful Workplace, Cybersecurity, and FERPA, topics all employees are required to understand. These trainings are required to comply with the State of Idaho’s requirements and to ensure awareness of campus policies and resources.
I am currently on leave (i.e. FMLA, etc.). Do I still need to complete the trainings?
If you are currently on leave and received the March 2 email from Human Resources titled “Welcome to 2026 Annual Mandatory Trainings – Due March 31,” our records indicate that as of February 27, 2026, you are on intermittent leave. Employees on intermittent leave are required to complete the training by Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. MST.
Employees who were recorded as on continuous leave prior to March 2 will receive a separate email from Human Resources with instructions and confirmation that they are required to complete the training within 30 days of returning to work.
If you have not informed Human Resources of your upcoming leave or if you have questions about your leave status, please contact hrfmla@boisestate.edu as soon as possible prior to the deadline.
I am currently on sabbatical. Do I still need to complete the trainings?
If you are currently on sabbatical, you are required to complete the training by Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. MST.
I am retiring or separating from the university. Do I still need to complete the trainings?
If you are transitioning to another benefit-eligible position within a State of Idaho agency, you are required to complete the training to remain eligible for Change in Employee Compensation (CEC) in the years authorized by the State of Idaho.
Individuals in phased retirement are still required to complete these trainings unless they are retiring before the deadline of March 31. Employees in phased retirement often have several years before fully retiring from the university and continue to serve important roles in our campus community.
However, if you are retiring or separating from Boise State before the training deadline of March 31, completion of the training is encouraged but not required. If this applies to you, please notify hr@boisestate.edu so we can update our records and remove you from future reminder emails.
What is the requirement for Boise State employees employed elsewhere in Idaho?
Boise State employees who also work for another Idaho state agency are required to complete the mandatory trainings assigned by each employer. While the other agency may assign a similar version of the State of Idaho’s Mandatory Trainings, employees must still complete Boise State’s 2026 Annual Mandatory Trainings. These trainings include the required state content as well as university-specific information, such as institutional policies and reporting procedures that employees are required and expected to understand.
Will I receive reminders to complete the trainings?
Yes. Following the initial announcement on March 2, reminder notifications will be sent to employees who have not completed the required training. Supervisors and college and division Business Managers will receive reports identifying employees with incomplete training on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, and Tuesday, March 24, 2026, followed by an updated report to Vice Presidents and Deans on Friday, March 27, 2026. Employees hired after March 2 will be manually enrolled in the training after their orientation date and will receive reminder notifications on the dates listed above if they have not completed the training by the deadline.
How does this relate to the Change in Employee Compensation (CEC)?
Completion of these trainings is required as part of your employment and eligibility for Change in Employee Compensation (CEC) in the years authorized by the State of Idaho. The State of Idaho refers to some employee pay raises or other wage considerations as CEC.
Who can I contact if I have questions?
