New Employee Trainings

Welcome to Boise State University! We’re excited to have you join our campus community. As part of your onboarding, all employees, both benefit-eligible and non-benefit-eligible, are required to complete trainings on federal, state, and university policies to help ensure a safe, supportive, and compliant workplace. Supervisors may also assign additional department-specific training based on your role.

Training Requirements

All new employees must complete the New Employee Training Canvas course within 30 days of their start date. Once enrolled, the course will appear on your Canvas dashboard, or you may need to accept an invitation sent to your employee email. The course includes required training on Respectful Workplace, Cybersecurity Awareness, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act, and Conflict of Interest and Commitment, detailed below. For questions, please contact hr@boisestate.edu.

Respectful Workplace

The culture of our workplace is shaped by how we treat one another every day. It reflects our shared responsibility to foster a thriving community where everyone can work and learn in a safe and respectful environment. This module provides you with the guidance to prevent and respond to harassment and discrimination, and understand where to report concerns.

Cybersecurity Awareness

Everyday digital actions play a critical role in protecting our data.  This module provides ways to spot phishing attempts, secure your credentials, and reduce the risk of data breaches, protecting student records, university operations, and your personal information.

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act

As part of the Boise State community, we all have a responsibility to protect student information. This module provides guidance to prevent unintentional disclosures and uphold the privacy and trust that our students and their families place in Boise State.

  • Depending on your employee type and level of access to student records, you may also be required to complete a separate, more in-depth FERPA course. If this training is required for your role, it will automatically appear on your Canvas dashboard. For questions, please contact the Registrar’s Office at regmail@boisestate.edu.

Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act

You play an important role in campus safety. If a crime or safety concern is shared with you, or you become aware of one, you must report it to the Department of Public Safety. This module explains what needs to be reported and how to take action, so you can respond appropriately and help keep our campus community safe and informed.

Conflict of Interest and Commitment

All new employees are required to complete the Conflict of Interest and Commitment Training and disclose any potential conflicts within 30 days of their start date. This allows the university to provide guidance, uphold its ethical standards, and advance our mission of teaching, research, and service.

  • Faculty, Graduate Students, and Professional Staff: These employees must submit the COI/C Disclosure Form within 30 days of their start date and annually thereafter.
  • Classified Employees: These employees are only required to submit the COI/C Disclosure Form within 30 days of their start date if they identify a potential conflict. There is no annual submission requirement unless a known conflict is present. If you identify a potential conflict, email rasa@boisestate.edu.
  • Remote Employees: If you work remotely or off campus, please connect to Boise State’s VPN before accessing the form. For questions, please contact rasa@boisestate.edu.
