Student Hiring

Boise State students, who take on a secondary role as a university employee, bring talents, energy and fresh perspective to departments while gaining valuable workplace skills and experience. Many students are so integral to departments, they are often hired as full time university employees following graduation. This webpage provides a step-by-step process to assist managers to recruit, hire, onboard and retain student employees.

RECRUIT

Hiring Resources

Campus resources are available to hire students.

HIRE

Finalize Start Date

A start date should be determined in the hiring process.

  • New student employees can begin their employment at any time in the payroll cycle.
  • If a department is transitioning a student worker to a new job classification, they will need to begin employment at the start of the pay period.
  • Dates can be found on the payroll and holiday website.

ONBOARD

Onboarding Checklist

Welcome to Boise State! The Employee Onboarding Checklist outlines the required and recommended steps to help you get set up for a successful start. It provides instructions and resources to help you complete employment forms, access Boise State systems, set up payroll information, complete trainings, and understand how to submit your work hours. Use the checklist to track your progress and share it with your supervisor for support along the way.

RETAIN

Job Training

Student workers are still learning, so it’s important to provide expectations, training and support so they can be successful in their new roles.
