Purpose

To direct and oversee the Boise State Sports Medicine staff in providing Sports Medicine/Athletic Training Services to the Boise State University Intercollegiate Athletic Program.

Level Scope

Provides direct supervision typically to professionals or skilled technical employees at the entry or intermediate level. Functions as advisor to unit and administration and sets goals and objectives for team members for achievement of operational results. Analyzes and resolves problems through drawing from prior experiences. Interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts and grants, resource management in defined areas) and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of campus resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years experience or equivalent

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and understanding of the NCAA rules and regulations regarding compliance issues
  • Ability to perform adequate and competent evaluations in regard to health status of student-athletes
  • Management and leadership skills

Essential Functions

Key Responsibilities

60% of Time the Sports Medicine, Manager must:

  • Oversee and administer the athletic training program for all sports at Boise State University to include all injury prevention, management, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation strategies for all home and away competitions and practices for all intercollegiate sports.
  • Maintain adequate records concerning athletic injuries, their etiology, treatment, and follow up treatment along with outside referrals as necessary.
  • Provide injury prevention, management, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation strategies for chronic/high profile injuries (needing specific attention) for student athletes when necessary.
  • Work with physicians and coaches in regards to injured athletics.
  • Administer and develop policy for outside providers.
  • Oversee the Athletic Department’s drug testing program.
  • Assist in implementation of department wide policy in conjunction with the NCAA.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Some positions may involve frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; some positions may involve moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 70 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; working in all weather conditions; exposure to high noise levels and require wearing hearing protection.
