Form I-9

Boise State University must complete Form I-9 to document verification of the identity and employment authorization of each new employee (both citizen and non-citizen) hired after November 6, 1986, to work in the United States in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.

New Employees

  1. Go to Form I-9 Section 1: Employee Information and Attestation to fill out the form.
  2. Bring your acceptable documents to Human Resources located in Capitol Village #3, 10:00am – 2:00pm, Monday through Thursday to complete Form I-9. Review list of acceptable documents.
  3. We are available by appointment from 8 am – 10 am or from 2 pm- 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday to accept your documents. To set up in an appointment please fill out our Google Form

If an employee fails to present appropriate original documentation within the 3-day period, the employee is not allowed to perform any work. Exception: The employee may present a receipt for a required lost, mutilated or destroyed document indicating he/she has submitted an application for a replacement document. In that case, the employee is given 90 days to provide the documentation.

Off Site Employee Options and Steps

Option A – Online & Boise State HR

  • 1. Form I-9 Section 1
  • 2. Form I-9 Section 2
    • Bring your unexpired original documents to the Boise State University Human Resources Department to complete Section 2

Option B – Online & Visit a Human Resources Department at a University in your Area

  • 1. Form I-9 Section 1
  • 2. Present your original documents to a Human Resources Associate at a university in your area
    • The HR Associate will fill out Section 2 of the I-9
    • The HR Associate will seal the paper I-9 in an envelope and return it to the employee to either hand deliver to the Human Resources Department at Boise State or to mail to the following address:

New International Employees

Bring your I-9 and Glacier Tax Withholding required documents to Human Resources located in Capitol Village #3, 10:00am – 2:00pm, Monday through Thursday to complete Form I-9.

Non-Student Employees who do not have a social security card:

  • Visit the Social Security Office and request one.
  • Get receipt from Social Security Office to verify the card request.
  • Bring the receipt, the Glacier and I9 required documents to Boise State Human Resources.

Student Employees who do not have a social security card:

  • Complete the International Student Services Letter Request Form (takes 3-5 days).
  • Take the letter to the Social Security Office to request a social security card.
  • Get a receipt from Social Security Office to verify the card request.
  • Bring the receipt, the Glacier and I9 required documents to Boise State Human Resources.

Rehired Employees

If an employee is reappointed a new Form I-9 must be completed if:

  • The current original Form I-9 on file is over 3 years old
