Boise State University uses the Cisco Unity Voicemail system. Voicemail accounts are created with new phone orders for individual faculty and staff unless otherwise specified.
For new phone orders for department-wide or shared usage, voicemail accounts must be specifically requested via Help Desk Self Service.
INITIAL SETUP AND INSTRUCTIONS
- From your University telephone (your own extension), dial 6-5999 or press the messages button on your phone set. You will be prompted to enter your PIN (password).
- The default PIN is 12345 for new voicemail accounts.
- Follow the voice prompts to set up your voicemail account.

RETRIEVE MESSAGES
Retrieve Messages From Your Own Phone
- Dial 6-5999 or press the messages button on your phone set.
- You will be prompted for your PIN (password).
- Once you’ve logged in, follow the voice prompts to retrieve your messages.
Retrieve Messages From Another Phone
- On campus, dial 6-5999 or press the messages button on your phone set. Off campus, dial (208) 426-5999.
- Press 1 or * as prompted in the opening greeting.
- You will be prompted for your ID (your 5-digit extension followed by the # sign).
- You will be prompted for your PIN (password followed by the # sign).
- Once you’ve logged in, follow the voice prompts to retrieve your messages.
If you attempt to access your voicemail using an incorrect password more than three successive times, you will be locked out of your account.
You can wait one hour to have the account automatically unlock, and you can try again, or you can contact the Help Desk to request your password be reset.
RESET YOUR VOICEMAIL PASSWORD
To reset your voicemail password, call the Help Desk at (208) 426-4357.
VOICEMAIL TO EMAIL
Voicemail messages may be forwarded to your email account, and reviewed as an attachment. Some mobile devices are unable to play .wav files, so this functionality may be unavailable for your device. Affected vendors are working on a solution.
To request that your voicemail is sent to your email, please contact the Help Desk at 426-4357, or submit a request via Help Desk Self Service.
VOICEMAIL WEB UTILITY
You can configure your voicemail account and view voicemail messages online via the Cisco Personal Communications Assistant at https://voicemail1.boisestate.edu:8443/ciscopca/home.do (must be on campus or using VPN to access).
Configuration options available include changing voicemail passwords, managing recorded greetings and message-delivery options, as well as setting up message-notification devices.
How to Log In
Before you log in to the web application for the first time, you must obtain an initial password from the OIT Help Desk by calling the Help Desk by phone at (208) 426-4357.
After you have obtained your password, open a web browser and browse to https://voicemail1.boisestate.edu:8443/ciscopca (must be on campus or using VPN to access).
- User ID: your five-digit extension (e.g., 64357)
- Password: your password
If you should need to reset your password, please contact the Help Desk.
Configure Options
Two choices are available from the main landing page.
- Use the Cisco Unity Assistant to change your voicemail passwords (phone set access), record prompts, and record greetings.
- Use the Cisco Unity Inbox to review and manage the list of voicemail messages saved to your account, including and saving a copy of the voicemail message to your computer.
When you click on a message you can:
- Play a Message on Your Computer
- Forward the Message to Another Extension on the Network
- Save the Message to Your Computer as a .WAV File
