We are thrilled to announce the creation of a new fund in support of Lucky Peak that honors one of IBO’s longtime volunteers and supporters, Jim James: the Jim James Endowment for IBO on Lucky Peak!
The fund will serve as a permanent legacy and a truly fitting tribute to a man who is one of, if not the very first, IBO volunteer ever.
Jim started out as a volunteer on our Lucky Peak hawkwatch project in the mid-1990’s. This project is truly at the core of what IBO does, showcasing our mission to conduct research, monitoring, and education, and is deeply loved by all who experience it.

This new Lucky Peak endowment seeks to ensure the longevity and sustainability of this decades-long study, providing support for the Lucky Peak Project to continue each year. Beyond its scientific contributions, the station offers an invaluable “discovery of nature” experience that has reached tens of thousands of people, fostering a deep stewardship ethic for conservation and habitat.
Please join Jim and invest in the future of the Lucky Peak research station today.
This fund can be built upon by anyone with any size gift. Every donation is a call to action that helps us build the fund toward the project’s long-term sustainability.
Your contribution will support Lucky Peak operations while Jim builds the endowment over the next five years. IBO staff and volunteers will train the next generation of conservation scientists and keep the station’s educational programs available for generations to come.
Together, we can ensure that the project that is at the heart of IBO continues to thrive, delivering critical science and outreach for years to come.
