Duties consist of forest-wide standardized point-count surveys, vegetation surveys, and data entry of woodpecker survey sites. Technicians will complete one survey per day (9 survey points in a 1 km square grid) using call broadcasts starting 15 minutes before sunrise and finishing within 5 hours. Then moving camp to the next location.

All work is solo, but may occasionally co-locate camping with other team members. In the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, housing is provided for days off, otherwise camping near surveys during the week.
