The time has come to choose names for our other two curlews that live on The Long-billed Curlew Area of Critical Environmental Concern near Emmett and Middleton!\u00a0 We’ve already named our pair, Thor and Valkyrie, thanks to Middleton High School.<\/p>\n

Now we have a male and a female, EP and CP who still need names. These two are not paired together, but both have nests on the Long-billed Curlew ACEC area.<\/p>\n

Students from some Idaho schools have come up with name options for these birds. Let us know your favorite name<\/strong><\/em>!<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Emmett High Schoolers<\/em> chose the names Gem<\/strong> (female) and Canyon<\/strong> (male), named after Gem and Canyon counties<\/li>\n
  • Trail Wind Elementary<\/em> students chose the names Sherlock Holmes<\/strong> (male) and Juliet<\/strong> (female–after Romeo and Juliet)<\/li>\n
  • Students from Borah High School<\/em> chose the couples names Ben<\/strong> and Jeri<\/strong> or Jack<\/strong> and Jill<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • Liberty Elementary<\/em> 4th-6th graders chose James Bond<\/strong> (for a male–because curlews are sneaky and hard to find like James Bond around their nests) or Sage<\/strong> (for a female since curlews live in sagebrush and there is a lot of sage in Idaho)<\/li>\n
  • A Sage International School<\/em> student chose the name Nez<\/strong> (for the female) and Perce<\/strong> (for the male) after the Nez Perce tribe<\/li>\n
  • 5th grade students from Perrine Elementary<\/em> voted for the names Colton<\/strong> and Caterina<\/strong> the curlews.<\/li>\n
  • And 2nd graders from the Barbara Morgan STEM Academy<\/em> chose Buster<\/strong> (male) and Lemon<\/strong> (female)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
