Can We Still Talk to Each Other? Media, Discourse, and Democracy

In an age of misinformation, polarization, and shrinking trust in news and institutions, how can we rebuild meaningful public conversation? This event brings together students, community members, and media experts to explore the role of media literacy, dialogue, and civic engagement in strengthening democracy. Join us for an open discussion about how we consume, share, and make sense of information—and what it will take to bridge divides and reclaim a shared reality.

Panelists include:

Sam Martin, School of Public Service

Scott McIntosh, Idaho Statesman

Emily Carmela Nelson, The Arbiter

Isaac Castellano, School of Public Service

Moderated by Seth Ashley, Department of Communication
