Video Transcript – Interdisciplinary Studies (3D) students share about their degree

Video Transcript

[Student 1]: Before I learned about the 3D major, I was completely lost on what I wanted to do and what for future career I wanted to go into. But this has really helped me know what direction I want to take. I’m someone who’s been worried about being stuck in one thing my whole life, one narrow career, and I need variety. And that 3D major I feel like gives me the chance to have endless options for me, especially with the three areas of interest I chose, and I’m a lot happier going this direction and I have learned so many skills that I know I wouldn’t have learned if I would have just chosen one regular major. This degree will help me make decisions for the next steps of my future because I feel like I don’t have to be as afraid of making decisions. I was always afraid that any decision I would make would be final and that that’s what I have to deal with. And that’s one of the reasons I’m a bad decision maker is because I’m worried it’ll be set in stone. So now I can just relax and take the steps that I feel are right for me, not worrying that I’ll be trapping myself into the same routine forever. After I graduate next year I’m excited to be able to see what options are out there for me.

[Student 2]: Hi guys, first of all I want to say how grateful I am for this program it has changed my life. I think that the skills that help me with this program would be my openness to new ideas as well as being very goal oriented. And just setting up these three minors really helped me be more goal oriented because I can see the end and I can see what I need to do for all three minors and it just makes me very excited for the future. Seeing all the possibilities that will come out of it makes me very excited too.

[Student 3]: Well I’m super glad that I switched over to 3D. I was having trouble, I was meeting with my advisors and one of them brought up, you know, this 3D interdisciplinary program, and I was right on board. I signed up right away. So yeah, I’m really glad I switched over to the program, and it was definitely a really good choice, and it was at a very strange part of my life where I wasn’t really going anywhere with school and I found the program that suited me, so I feel really good about that.

[Student 4]: I think in general in life it’s gonna help me because I’m just happier in a 3D degree than I am in a regular traditional major. It’s made me feel more like an individual and has shown me that I can, you know, continue to do whatever I want and make things work for me the way that I want them to in life, so I think that’s how it’ll help me in my next steps.
