Kinesiology Attends Women Leaders in Sports Convention 2025

A group of six Boise State graduate students, faculty and staff recently attended the annual Women Leaders in Sports convention, which took place in Kansas City, October 12-14.

Three graduate students from the Master of Athletic Leadership (MAL) program (housed in the School of Kinesiology):  Abby Decker, Mackenzie Huotari, and Brooklyn Stufft, were accompanied by Shelley Lucas (MAL faculty) and Tina Freeman (MAL staff), along with Kelli Nooney (Student-Athlete Development, Department of Athletics).

The Women Leaders in Sports organization supports women in college athletics, pro sports and sport business and the annual convention  “is designed for all those working and leading in sports across every level, within every sector, and during every stage of their career.”

The graduate students spent a lot of energy networking, attending sessions and asking questions.  Boise State was well-represented!

Mackenzie Huotari – Boise State Kinesiology Graduate Student

“The convention was such an empowering experience. My favorite part was the sense of community and encouragement among women who share the same passion for sports and leadership. I left feeling inspired to continue growing as a leader and to use my platform to help others the same way so many leaders there inspired me. The sessions on confidence, career development, and networking gave me new perspectives on how to approach my own leadership journey.”

Brooklyn Stufft – Boise State Kinesiology Graduate Student

“The Women Leaders in Sports Convention changed my life in ways I never could have imagined. From meeting women walking the same path as me to hearing from leaders who are transforming the industry, I left feeling inspired and empowered. My favorite moment was listening to the Power 4 ADs share their journeys with such authenticity and strength. Seeing that kind of leadership on stage reminded me how powerful it is to embrace who you truly are.

I’m beyond grateful to have experienced this alongside Abby, Mackenzie, and our amazing faculty. I already can’t wait to go back!”

Abby Decker – Boise State Kinesiology Graduate Student

“Attending the Women Leaders in Sport Conference was truly a life-changing experience. It opened my eyes to the endless possibilities within this field and reminded me of the power of knowing my why. Surrounded by so many inspiring women, I walked away grounded in my core values, confident in my purpose, and more motivated than ever to lead with authenticity and impact.”
