Workshops to support your research journey

Join the Office of Undergraduate Research for two upcoming workshops designed to help student research navigate generative AI and master the art of the research abstract.

Information, Ethics, and Research in the Age of GenAI

This workshop will be divided into two parts. In the first, you will learn about the basic ethical issues involved both generally with Generative AI, but also more specifically with the use of Generative AI in Undergraduate Research. In the second, you will learn about NotebookLM and apply the ethical frames we discuss to your use of it in your research process. You will:

  • Gain a basic understanding of ethical issues in interacting with Generative AI
  • Apply this understanding to issues of Research Ethics in the age of Generative AI
  • Learn how to use NotebookLM in an ethical manner.

Anders Tobiason, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor and the Multimedia Development and User Experience Librarian at Albertsons Library. He teaches LIBR 140, the foundational course in the AI for All certificate. He also led the team that redesigned the AI Literacy and Student Success course to directly address ethical issues in using and interacting with GenAI. His primary goal in all these efforts is to help students become critically and ethically engaged with GenAI. He is a proud Luddite. Ask him what that means.

When: Thursday, February 12, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Where: Albertsons Library, Room 105A

How to Write an Abstract

Are you a student looking to learn or get better in writing an abstract? This workshop is designed to help you craft clear, concise, and effective abstracts that highlight the key points of your research. This workshop will be led by Melissa Keith, Director of the Boise State Writing Center. Melissa teaches courses in persuasive writing and writing center theory in the Department of Writing Studies.

Writing an abstract is a crucial skill for sharing your research effectively. If you plan to present your research soon or are participating in the 2026 Undergraduate Research Showcase, this workshop will help you feel confident and prepared.

When: Wednesday, February 25, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Where: Albertsons Library, Room 105A

Students are encouraged to RSVP to these workshops via Campus Groups.
