Albertsons Library announces retirement of former Dean and Librarian Tracy Bicknell-Holmes
Tracy Bicknell-Holmes, Library
Tracy Bicknell-Holmes, former dean and librarian, will retire April 17.
Bicknell-Holmes served as library dean for eight years before transitioning to her current role as the physics, chemistry, and engineering librarian. Her tenure was marked by a commitment to ensuring the library remained an open, welcoming environment for all. She modernized recruitment practices and established committee training to ensure the library’s workforce maintained the highest professional standards.
Bicknell-Holmes supported the launch of the MakerLab, research data management services, and the library’s green screen studio. She also expanded the library’s cultural reach, supporting the landmark “First Folio: The Book that Gave Us Shakespeare” exhibit and facilitating the transfer of the Idaho Center for the Book to Special Collections.
Her stewardship helped the library navigate significant transitions, including a 2014 program prioritization and a right-sizing of physical collections that reduced the print footprint by 25% to better accommodate digital research needs. Beyond campus, she was instrumental in forming the Network of Idaho Academic Libraries to improve resource-sharing across the state.
A gathering to celebrate Tracy Bicknell-Holmes’ retirement will be held on April 15, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. in Room 105 in Albertsons Library.
