Albertsons Library Dean Patrick “Tod” Colegrove has been appointed Dean of Library Services for California Polytechnic State University, leading library services across both the San Luis Obispo and Cal Poly Maritime Academy campuses in Vallejo, effective July 13. His last day at Boise State is July 10, 2026.
Through a unified effort, library administration and staff successfully orchestrated a financial turnaround, eliminating a decade-long structural deficit that had reached nearly $500,000 each year. A key component of this collaborative success was the advocacy for a student library fee approved by the State Board of Education. This initiative established a sustainable financial model, granting the library the necessary flexibility to adapt to the changing requirements of students, faculty, and the university.
The team-driven approach extended to library operations, technology and student services. Through cross-campus partnerships, Albertsons Library accomplished several major milestones under Colegrove. The library migrated from an end-of-life legacy library catalog system to an open-source library services platform, eliminating the need for numerous shadow systems. Additionally, the Library in partnership with the Affordable Learning Materials team and the Bronco Shop saved Boise State students more than $1.8 million in textbook and course material costs during the past academic year through the Affordable Learning Materials initiative.
Further improvements included renovating three of the Library’s four floors without using internally budgeted capital by strategically reinvesting operational savings and partnering with other campus departments. The Library also integrated AI literacy instruction into University Foundations coursework, reaching more than 8,300 students to date.
Colegrove emphasized that these successes were the direct result of a dedicated team, expressing gratitude for the trust and teamwork that made these advancements possible.
“Everything I’m proud of from these past four years belongs to the Albertsons Library team,” said Colegrove. “Blue Turf Thinking — bold, inventive, unafraid to try what others wouldn’t — is what made this library a place students rely on and other institutions look to. It has been the honor of my career to lead them, and I leave knowing they will keep raising the bar for what an academic library can be.”
