About

Dr. Champion joined the mathematics department in 2013. He earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mathematics from the University of North Dakota, and a Ph.D in Educational Mathematics from the University of Northern Colorado. Previously, he served for 3 years on the mathematics faculty of Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi.

Dr. Champion is a mathematics education specialist. He collaborates with scientists and educators to improve the teaching and learning of mathematics at all levels. His research often draws on large-scale data analysis, addressing academic performance and persistence in mathematics and science, as well as the learning of mathematical and statistical modeling. Joe also builds educational websites and software.
