Rescheduled: Celebrate Karen Henry’s service to Boise State over 27 years

Karen Henry

This celebration has been rescheduled for April 17, 2023 at 2 p.m. in the Boise State University Alumni and Friends Center Living Room. All are welcome. [Updated April 5, 2023]

The campus community is invited to celebrate the career of Karen Henry, the Executive Strategic Planning Analyst for University Research.

Henry began her role in the Boise State Division of Research and Economic Development in 1996, and will retire from the university in April. In her time at the university she helped research awards grow from approximately $8 million to approximately $70 million in 2022.

Additionally, she merged the pre-award and post-award offices in the Office of Sponsored programs, and helped grow and reorganize the staff from three persons to 30. Henry is known for her excellent service as an advocate for the research community, as well as her mission to reduce administrative burden for researchers and her flexibility and creative problem solving.

“As a faculty researcher, I appreciated Karen’s guidance,” said Vice President for Research Nancy Glenn, “but it wasn’t until I began working with her in the Division of Research and Economic Development that I realized her tireless efforts on behalf of Boise State are what made our research portfolio what it is today. She has been a critical leader of innovation for the university due to her dedication, her keen sense of what was to come, and her significant research into policy and federal regulations.”

Henry’s tireless support of research and creative activity at Boise State is evident in her service in nearly 20 campus committees, and her membership with the Council on Government Relations University Representative from 2018- 2023, and the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA) from 1993-2021.

Prior to joining Boise State, Henry worked in sponsored programs at Idaho State University, after managing the Idaho State Board of Educations grant programs.
