Castellano publishes book on security framework

Isaac Castellano, professor in the Department of Political Science, recently had his book, “Security Webs and 21st Century Threats: A New Framework” published by Routledge as part of the Routledge Critical Security Studies Series.

Borrowing the concept of “food webs” from the field of ecology, which maps out how animals and plants gain energy, Castellano’s book introduces the “Security Webs” framework, clarifying the interconnected nature of security across time and space. Castellano profiles emerging security threats — such as climate change, weak state capacity and political extremism — and illustrates how the security webs framework can help study these. The new framework can be applied to individual, nation-state and non-state actors, and bridges the divide between the traditionalist and human security camps.
