The Sept. 5 game’s “Blue Turf Thinkers” included faculty, staff and students from the School for the Digital Future and Feed the Funnel. Honorees representing both groups took to the field at halftime in recognition of their innovative work in education and philanthropic service, respectively.

Feed the Funnel is an annual event to help address food insecurity, led by Boise State’s chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, an international honor society for accounting, finance and information students. According to Feeding America’s “Map the Meal Gap” report, a staggering 10.8% of families in Ada County face food insecurity. Feed the Funnel raises money throughout the year to purchase shelf-stable foods, and the event culminates in September, when hundreds of volunteers converge on campus for a two-hour meal packing marathon. The meals are then donated to 24 regional food banks including Boise State’s Campus Food Pantry.

Over four years, the Feed the Funnel event has raised $100,000 to package over 250,000 meals for local food pantries. This year’s ambitious goal: raise $50,000 to package 100,000 meals in two hours on September 19. You can make a difference by donating to the cause or volunteering to help pack meals from 2-4 p.m. on Sept. 19.
