The podcast Journeys of Accountancy is back for its fourth season with six new episodes. Hosted by Department of Accountancy Professor Mark Cowan and Lecturer JoAnn Wood, the series explores both the numbers and the people behind them, aiming to expand students’ and listeners’ understanding of the accounting profession.
Designed to challenge the perception of accounting as only a desk job, Journeys of Accountancy features in-depth interviews with alumni and professionals whose career paths showcase the versatility of an accounting background and how it can be used in more than just professional life.

Now totaling 36 episodes, the podcast provides insight for prospective and veteran accountants, as well as anyone interested in the Boise State community.
The new season opens with Mason Hampton, a Boise State alum and former Broncos football player, who shares his journey from the field to a career in construction. In contrast, the second episode features Ryan Marquez, head of tax at Clearwater Analytics, who discusses how accounting helped him navigate a personal health challenge and further his career.
The first two episodes highlight the diverse range of experiences the series covers, offering lessons that resonate with accountants and non-accountants alike. The podcast also serves as an educational tool in Boise State accounting courses, where it inspires students and illustrates the profession’s adaptability. Proving once again that it’s essential to look beyond more than just the numbers.
