The Office of Sustainability and partners in Campus Operations are offering faculty and staff the opportunity to trade in their office space heaters for a free electric blanket.
This program offers a number of benefits:
- Space heaters frequently cause power interruptions on campus because their high electricity consumption can overload circuits and trip breakers.
- Space heaters are expensive to operate compared to electric blankets ($21/month vs. $1/month when operating eight hours a day.
- Space heaters can cause thermostats to register artificially high temperatures. This can cause the HVAC system to supply air that is cooler, instead of warmer, to large areas of the building.
- Space heaters can cause fires.
Those interested in choosing to trade in their space heater for an electric blanket can do so by filling out the interest form.
Supplies are limited, and due to impacts related to the steam plant upgrades, priority will be given to individuals in the buildings listed below. Any remaining blankets will then be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
