Boise State’s Proctoring and Certification Services (PACS) is strengthening the university’s position as a leader in testing and lifelong learning. Each year, PACS delivers thousands of exams, including placement tests, College-Level Examination Program exams, accommodated and makeup testing, distance proctoring, and professional certifications. From first-year students to veterans and local professionals, PACS provides a supportive, streamlined testing experience.
Growth and innovation
In response to increasing need, especially for accommodated and credit-by-exam testing, PACS added three new private testing rooms in 2025. The department also collaborates with faculty to support academic integrity, streamline exam processes, and expand certification opportunities that align with workforce needs. Recent projects include a new workflow for reporting misconduct and campus partnerships to raise awareness of testing options.
National recognition and the value of the College-Level Examination Program
In 2025, PACS was named one of the nation’s Top 20 CLEP® Test Centers by the College Board, a recognition of its high volume of College-Level Examination Program exams.
CLEP allows students to earn credit by demonstrating subject knowledge gained through coursework, work experience or independent study. Boise State awards CLEP credit based on American Council on Education or faculty-reviewed scores, helping students save money, shorten degree timelines and reduce tuition costs. Fee waivers are available for active military and qualifying civil servants.
