The final stages for the current phase of the Steam Tunnel and Heat Plant upgrades under the Capital Renewal Project are now underway, Architectural and Engineering Services shared.
To prepare the new piping for getting full heat back to campus, project teams will be conducting a critical step called “blow off” over the next few weeks.
This activity involves passing high-pressure steam through each boiler to remove residual debris in preparation for system startup. It is a critical and mandatory step to ensure the equipment is ready for full operation.
Impact and schedule
- When: Starting Oct. 9, 2025 and lasting for approximately three to four weeks.
- Where: The activity will create a noticeable whistling noise, primarily heard when passing the Heat Plant area.
- Why: This temporary noise is a necessary part of the process to finalize these critical infrastructure improvements.
Understanding and cooperation is appreciated as this phase wraps up and to ensure reliable campus heating for the long term.
