Sustaining our momentum: A message from Interim President Jeremiah Shinn

The following message was sent to all faculty and staff on Oct. 9, 2025.

Dear Colleagues,

Last weekend, I joined thousands of Bronco fans in South Bend to watch our football team take on Notre Dame. Seeing that stadium filled with blue and orange — miles from home — reminded me how much people love this university. I know we’ll feel that same energy again as we head into Homecoming and Parent & Family Weekend.

Moments like these remind me that even during times of transition, we can rely on the strong foundation we’ve built together as a campus community. Our strength is rooted in something far more enduring than any one person or moment in time.

As you saw in last week’s message, the State Board of Education has extended the search for our next president. I’m happy to continue serving as interim president until that process is complete. I am confident in the diligence and integrity guiding that work. I also have great confidence in our leadership team and in every member of this community who continues to advance our mission with purpose and resolve. The strength of our team — combined with steady, thoughtful leadership, and fidelity to who we are — will sustain our momentum through this transition.

Sustaining our momentum means continuing to strengthen our leadership team. In the coming weeks, we’ll launch national searches for a Chief Financial Officer and a Chief Information Officer — two key roles that will help shape the future of our university. A number of other senior leadership searches will be launching in the months to come. We will strategically cascade these processes, keeping in mind the timelines relative to the presidential search and campus bandwidth to conduct senior leadership searches at a high level of quality.

Sustaining our momentum also means staying focused on what matters most. We remain committed to the blueprint for success, which has guided our work for a number of years. We also remain committed to pursuing the opportunities I shared in June:

  • To prepare our students to be the first and best choice for Idaho jobs.
  • To position Idaho as a formidable competitor on the national and global stage.
  • To strengthen our role as a trusted partner in serving and advancing Idaho communities.
  • To emerge as a national model for navigating and shaping the future of intercollegiate athletics.

Even as the world around us changes — and our leadership team evolves, who we are and who we serve remains consistent. So, let’s stay rooted in our purpose. Let’s remain open to what’s possible — and let’s keep our foot on the gas.

It is the honor of my life to serve you in this role and I’m deeply grateful to be part of this team.

Thank you,

Jeremiah Shinn
Interim President
