Breedlove’s textbook leads next generation of medical imaging education

Boise State College of Health Sciences faculty continue to shape the future of medical imaging education through nationally recognized scholarship and leadership.

Monica Breedlove

Monica Breedlove, clinical associate professor and director of the MRI and CT programs in the School of Medical Imaging and Radiologic Sciences, is the newly published author of “Sectional Anatomy for Imaging Professionals, 5th edition,” including both the textbook and accompanying workbook. Released in December 2025, the new edition represents the latest evolution of a trusted educational resource used by imaging students and professionals nationwide.

Breedlove follows a distinguished lineage of Boise State faculty authors. The first through fourth editions of the textbook were authored by Lorrie Kelley, faculty emeritus, and Connie Petersen, former adjunct faculty. With the fifth edition, Breedlove assumes authorship and stewardship of the series, building upon its foundation while updating content to reflect current imaging technology, clinical practice and educational needs.

The revised edition offers enhanced clarity and alignment with modern imaging modalities, supporting student comprehension of cross-sectional anatomy essential to CT and MRI practice. The inclusion of a companion workbook further strengthens applied learning, allowing students to bridge theory with clinical interpretation.

Breedlove’s work reflects Boise State’s commitment to faculty-led scholarship that directly supports student success and workforce readiness. As program director, she brings classroom and clinical insight into curriculum development, ensuring instructional materials remain relevant to today’s imaging environments.

The publication of the fifth edition highlights the College of Health Sciences’ ongoing influence on professional education beyond campus. By authoring and advancing widely used instructional resources, Boise State faculty help shape national standards for imaging education while reinforcing the university’s role as a leader in health sciences.

As imaging technology and clinical expectations continue to evolve, faculty-driven scholarship like Breedlove’s ensures that students are prepared with the knowledge, skills and critical thinking required to succeed in modern healthcare settings.
