Graduate Student Showcase reaches new milestone in participation and impact

Student presents their research to an audience member

As part of Research and Creative Activity Month at Boise State, the Graduate College hosted its annual Graduate Student Showcase on April 8. The event brought together nearly 200 graduate students to share research and creative work through both in-person and online formats.

The showcase reached its highest level of participation to date, reflecting continued growth in graduate education and scholarly engagement at Boise State. Each presentation was evaluated by three faculty judges from outside the student’s program or college, providing opportunities for interdisciplinary feedback and broader academic exchange.

Representing 43 master’s and doctoral programs across six academic colleges, students presented work spanning scientific inquiry, applied research, policy analysis, and creative practice.

In addition to poster presentations, Master of Fine Arts students delivered readings of their writing that drew standing-room-only audiences, offering a dedicated forum for sharing creative work.

The showcase was supported by 120 graduate faculty judges who volunteered their time to evaluate student work and attend in support of their advisees. Their participation reflects the mentorship and collaboration central to graduate education at Boise State.

The event drew over 600 attendees, including undergraduate students, faculty, university leadership, and community members, highlighting strong engagement with graduate scholarship across the university.

Forty-two students who participated in the showcase will be recognized at the Graduate College Awards Ceremony on April 23 for exceptional academic achievement presented at the event.

Graduate College Dean Scott Lowe emphasized the significance of the event and the momentum it represents for the university’s research mission.

“The Graduate Student Showcase is more than just an event; it is a window into the incredible scholarship that is flourishing across the Boise State campus. As we accelerate our pursuit of a Carnegie R1 designation, the advancement of student research reflects both the breadth and the real-world impact of our academic community. Through the Showcase, as we open the doors to the scholarship that our graduate students are doing in their classrooms, studios, and labs, we are not just displaying work — we are celebrating the inspired minds that make Boise State thrive.”
