Boise State alum Roma Aatifi (BS, anthropology, 2023) is currently working as a cultural heritage consultant with the Aga Khan Trust for Culture in Kabul, Afghanistan. Her work supports the preservation of digital heritage and sustainability related to the archaeological sites throughout Afghanistan.
Her work in the country allows her to bring together archives, community collaboration, and her own research on preserving narratives around Afghanistan’s history. Despite the challenges of working in a post-conflict region, she is committed to preserving the country’s heritage and helping local communities protect their own history.
“As an Afghan cultural heritage professional, this work is deeply personal to me,” she said. “I want to help preserve not only sites and objects, but also the narratives, knowledge, and stories that shape how Afghanistan’s history is understood and shared.”
