Jaclyn Kettler, professor in political science, was quoted in a recent New York Times article, “As Democrats Struggle in Some Western States, Independents See an Opening.” The article examines independent candidates challenging Republican incumbents in Idaho and other Western states.
Kettler explained that Democrats have had to decide whether to run their own candidate or support an independent who shares many of their views and may be better positioned to challenge the Republican.
