On Oct. 8, 2026, Ariel Delgado Dixon and Mary Pauline Lowry will give a reading for the Hemingway Center Reading Series. Dixon and Lowry’s reading marks an extra special event in this fall’s line-up, as both of them graduated from the Boise State Creative Writing MFA Program in 2019.
“Boise State played such a foundational role in my writing life,” Dixon said. “I’m very grateful to return to Idaho and read alongside my dear friend and former cohort-mate Mary Pauline Lowry, who has remained a huge source of camaraderie and inspiration over the years.”

The Hemingway Center Reading Series, organized by the Boise State Creative Writing MFA Program, brings renowned authors to campus each semester to give readings and meet with students. Past Visiting Writers include Adam Johnson, winner of the Pulitzer Prize, and Joy Williams, recipient of a Library of Congress Prize for American Fiction.
“Getting to return to Boise State to do a reading with my friend and cohort-mate Ariel Delgado Dixon is a dream!” said Lowry. “It’s been so fun to grow together as writers and friends. Ariel is incredibly talented with a work ethic to match. She’s my inspiration.”
Dixon and Lowry each published new novels this summer. Dixon published her second novel, “Sourland,” named a “Most Anticipated Book” for Summer 2026 by Electric Lit, Harper’s Bazaar, The Seattle Times, and Autostraddle. Lowry published her third novel, “Last Night Was Killer,” which People Magazine called “an inventive mystery loaded with humor, heart, and found family.” Both novels received stellar reviews and will be available for purchase and signing at the reading on Thursday, October 8, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Hemingway Center.
