New science shows what kind of friendships we crave

Assistant Professor Jessica Ayers of the Department of Psychological Science was recently interviewed by Scientific American about her new research on human friendships. The podcast Science Quickly spoke with Ayers about her recent paper in the journal, “Evolution and Human Behavior,” showing that people want both close friends and wide network of friends.

“This research challenges some long-held beliefs about the kinds of friends we need and how we make friends in general, which makes in paradigm shifting in psychological science,” Ayers said.
