Preceptor Requirements

  • If you are a new preceptor, the School of Nursing requires you to complete the Preceptor Information Form, submit a current curriculum vitae along with documentation of your credentials, licensure, work schedule, and details about your patient load and acuity. Preceptors must have at least one year of post-licensure experience as a nurse practitioner, physician, or physician assistant.
  • We seek individuals with strong communication, teaching, problem-solving, advocacy, conflict resolution, and goal-setting skills. A commitment to providing regular evaluations and offering constructive feedback to students is essential.
  • We value preceptors who are eager to share their knowledge, mentor students, and actively support their learning.
  • A desire to share your knowledge as a mentor and teacher – and to be an advocate for learning.
  • In addition to completing student evaluations, preceptors have the option to submit feedback on Boise State’s nurse practitioner program through a survey available in Typhon at the end of the rotation.
  • We welcome your questions and sincerely appreciate your feedback—it plays a vital role in enhancing our program.
